Shared Balcony
It's not the first time that we have had this guy ask to use our balcony but it is the first time that I had my camera nearby! While I have appreciated our fourth floor panorama, I did not realize we had such a great hunter's perch. My best guess is that this Red tailed Hawk has an appetite for geckoes by the lake.

"Swamp Land"
With suburban sprawl on the horizon, the Juno Natural Dunes Area ensures that several hundred acres of Florida's coast will remain condo-free. What my parent's generation referred to as "swamp land" is now seen by many as what it truly is: prized wilderness and a vital part of the ecosystem. Just north of Jupiter/Juno is the 11,000 acre Jonathan Dickinson State Forest which protects the Loxahatcheee River and watershed. Timeless and forever wild it remains as a gift from those with "vision" when pressure to develop and build was at it's zenith!

Happy Valentine's Day
While looking for the iconic Valentine's Day photo I met Kara. Wearing her heart on her sleeve, Kara was eager to share her feelings for Johnny with anyone who would listen. I was most impressed with her Valentine energy and her home made from the heart heart! It was Kara's plan to share her affection for Johnny by fastening her heart to the town pier for all to see. What is Valentine's Day, after all, if not the celebration of love?
I promised Kara that I would share her youthful enthusiasm and joy with the inter net! So..wishes,Kara, for a long, happy and love filled life! :-)

Pinch Me
Warm weather boating in January and February, really? Where have I been these past few winters of my retirement? Seems as if the only "boating" I did during the cold months was surfing through marine catalogues and cruising past frozen boat slips. Lately, the most common refrain from fellow snow birders is: "I tried to tell you..." Hey, better a little later than never! :-)

In Awe
Through the eyes of a three year old the ordinary mechanical happenings of everyday life can appear to be nothing short of miraculous. Grandson Oliver stands here in witness to the fact that that road did in fact reach to the sky and that boats indeed went underneath right where he had been standing! Other awe inspiring events include elevator operation, crossing gates (that "go Ding, Ding, Ding") trains that ride on tracks and pocket doors that disappear into walls. Life is full of discoveries! :-)

Groundhog Day
Not a groundhog in sight here...Today is Punxsutawney Phil's big day. Local lore has it that if Phil should emerge from his groundhog den and see his shadow we are all in for six more weeks of winter. My hope and wish for all my friends/family up north: A cloudy and sunless morning to greet old Phil! AND, should it be a sunny, shadow producing day in Punxsutawney...shoot that rodent before he sees anything! (A longer winter???..is that possible?)
